An overview of process for outside plan check in the City of Palo Alto:

The following steps are general process for submitting plans to the Plan Review Consultants, Inc as 3rd party review (Outside Plan Check) for Building Plan Review in the City of Palo Alto. For review by other disciplines such as Planning and Fire, please contact the City of Palo Alto.

Step 1
Please visit the city building department and file an application for building permit. Please inform the City that you have selected Plan Review Consultants to provide elective third party review for your project. Complete the form they City has titled “REQUEST FOR OUTSIDE PLAN CHECK “ and pay necessary forms. City may take additional set for review by other city operations such as Fire and Planning.

Step 2
Please send via FedEx or other overnight services the documents listed blow. Please be advised that using certified mail or requiring signature on the US-postal express may result in delay of delivery.

• One copy of city building application
  
• One copy of City 3rd part/Elective plan review notification
• Two sets of complete drawings
  
• Two sets of Structural Calculations
  
• Two set of Title-24 Energy Conservation Calculations
  
• Two copies of signed contracts.
  

What happens next

• We confirm the receipt of the project
  
• We start working on your project and finish it within committed timetable
  
• We e-mail or fax the comments to you or architect of the records
  
• We will send you an invoice and contract based on the agreed fees.
  
• We provide with username and password, so you can check status of the projects and download projects related documents throughout the process.
  

Resubmittal or Recheck (Once the corrections are done)

• Please send us written response as how the comments are resolved or responded to.
  
• Please cloud changes to expedite the recheck
  
• Please make sure all required sheets are stamp and signed by the qualified engineer and/or architect.
  
• Send two sets of complete plans and revised calculations to us for review.

When the project is approved

When all comments are resolved we send the approved the project to the city directly. We inform you and you can contact the city to set up time to obtain your permit provided all other conditions and reviews by other agencies within the city such as Planning, Fire, Public Works are resolved.
